Implementation of the Air Quality Directive in six European Seaport cities

The pressure on the ambient air quality in European international seaports is high. International (seagoing) ships, inland shipping, harbor activities, industry and local urban areas each take part in polluting the air. European Union legislation, The Air Quality Directive, sets limit and target values for different pollutants like particulate matter, ozone and nitrogen dioxide. The DCMR Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has assigned DHV to perform an “EU Benchmark Air Quality” for six EU seaport cities. Read more

Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau Link, China

TEC, a joint venture between the three Dutch engineering firms of DHV, Royal Haskoning and Witteveen+Bos, has won a contract to provide all the design checking, tendering and contracting services for the Hong Kong Zhuhai Macau link project. DHV’s office in Shanghai will play a vital role in this project as the local support team. Read more

Marshland creation New Orleans, USA

After hurricane Katrina, a consortium led by DHV conducted a research project in New Orleans in order to improve flood protection and landscape stabilization. DHV advised to recreate salt marshes as a natural barrier against flooding and hurricanes. Read more

King Abdul Aziz road project

One of the major project developments in the City of Makkah is the development of the King Abdul Aziz Road, linking the main traffic node from Jeddah towards the Holy Mosque. In close cooperation with urban design company Kuiper Compagnons, DHV has done a feasibility study on the concept, as input for the Master plan for this area. Read more

DB(F)M-project National Airport of Zaventem, Belgium

The Participatiemaatschappij Vlaanderen Belgium organized a combined invitation to tender of the DB(F)M-contract for the northern opening up of the Zaventem Airport, north of Brussels (Belgium) as well as for the tendering of the financing of this contract. The ultimate goal was to find the best tender for the DBM-contract and the best tendered for the F-contract to enter into a DBFM-contract together with the Participatiemaatschappij Vlaanderen (Holding Company Flanders). Port Said East Port master plan, Egypt

Port Said East Port, in the Egyptian city of Port Said, is a new port area directly linked with the economically important Suez Canal. The Port Said Port Authority (PSPA) and the Egyptian government commissioned DHV and its partners to develop a master plan for the new 120 km2 port and industry complex East of Port Said. The extended area should enhance economic growth in Egypt. Read more

Panama Canal Expansion, Panama

The Panama Canal is an important artery in intercontinental transport in central America. In order to be able to grow with the present and future water transport sector, the canal’s capacity must be enlarged. DHV, together with partners, has been contracted for the project management of the construction of a third set of locks with larger lock chambers. The project started in 2007 and is to be completed in 2014. Read more

Abu Dhabi International Airport Car Park

Air traffic at Abu Dhabi International Airport is expected to grow significantly in the future. To handle this increase in traffic demand, a new Terminal Complex is being developed. International architects KPF and NACO produced the winning design for the new Midfield Terminal Complex at Abu Dhabi International Airport. Read more

Transformation Nieuw Binckhorst The Hague, The Netherlands

For the transformation of the Binckhorst-area in the municipality of The Hague, DHV carried out an environmental appraisal which included a strategic environmental assessment and studies concerning the environmental influence of commercial operations in the area. The result was a report which recommends where and under which conditions certain activities can be realised or maintained. Read more

Subotica water- and sludgeline

During the period 2006-2008, DHV has designed and implemented the reconstruction works of the wastewater treatment plant of the city of Subotica, in the northern part of Serbia. These reconstruction works are executed to upgrade the existing wastewater treatment facilities up to a capacity of 36,000 m3/day, including de-nitrification and dephosphorization processes. The upgraded WWTP will serve 100,000 households with sustainable effluent treatment. Read more
