Multiyear Maintenance Plan for DSM Pharma Chemicals in Venlo, The Netherlands

DSM Pharma Chemicals in Venlo is one of the world's leading independent companies producing semi manufactured and raw materials for the pharmaceutical industry. Approximately six new different products are developed annually. Production of a new product requires adaptation of the manufacturing site. The Venlo site is autonomous and has at its disposal its own fire fighting department, water treatment plant and security. In early 2009 DHV set up a Multiyear Maintenance Plan (MMP) for DSM.

Project

This project started by recording all relevant assets, collecting and drawing up related data and determining the DSN maintenance standard. The actual physical condition of the assets was assessed from a so-called zero measurement. This assessment was carried out in situ by DHV inspectors who translated the observed maintenance levels into objective maintenance norms. Subsequently, the multiyear maintenance plan was drawn up.

Implementation of the plan follows four steps. The maintenance activities will be incorporated in the plant maintenance system (SAP-PM), they will be prepared, planned and eventually executed. In order to manage the entire process DSM enabled training of a DHV employee to work with SAP-PM

Troubleshooting

In addition DHV fulfils a role in trouble shooting and contributes in scoping, engineering and supervision during project setup.

The multiyear maintenance plan was updated in early 2010 and prepared for implementation.
