Port Said East Port, in the Egyptian city of Port Said, is a new port area directly linked with the economically important Suez Canal. The Port Said Port Authority (PSPA) and the Egyptian government commissioned DHV and its partners to develop a master plan for the new 120 km2 port and industry complex East of Port Said. The extended area should enhance economic growth in Egypt.
Situation
Port Said is located on the Mediterranean side of the Suez Canal, through which 30% of the world’s container transport and 13% of the world’s trade flows. Port Said East Port is the site of a highly successful container terminal. In the future, enlargement of the port site is foreseen, as well as development of a new industrial area South of the port hub.
Project
DHV and its partners were commissioned to develop an elaborate master plan for the development of the total port and industry complex. DHV divided the area into several industry-specific clusters, such as the port hub itself, the industrial zone and a tourism zone. The consortium executed various studies:
- Topographic survey and soil investigations
- Economic analysis and market survey for the industrial park
- Cargo and traffic forecast for the port
- Port layout analysis
- Conceptual design and cost estimates
- Environmental analysis
- Economic and financial analysis
- Marketing plan and investors guide
In 15 to 20 years’ time, ten additional terminals will be constructed, including oil terminals, Roll-On Roll-Off (RoRo) terminals and multi-purpose terminals. Besides the transshipment of cargo, the port will also be used to transport goods to and from the industrial zone.
