DHV recently published a project review for the Rotary Club in the Dutch town of Scherpenzeel-Woudenberg.
Several DHV consultants of the unit Water Treatment in Amersfoort participated in this CR activity, providing their knowledge by evaluating the results of the project 'Clean Water for Bertoua in Cameroun'. The Rotary Club and the Inbo Foundation started the project in 1997, providing clean drinking water for all inhabitants of Bertoua. DHV evaluated the technical aspects and its effects on the public health and the infant mortality rate.
In their review the consultants found several lessons to be learned for the project, but they were also impressed by the major results of such a small organization. That’s why the review is called 'Small scale - Big Changes'.
Frank Jansink, manager civil engineering at DHV: “It’s great to see such a small organization can do so much with a small amount of money to provide clean drinking water for so many people. It is unbelievable that in a growing and developing city with enough water, clean drinking water is not available. Money is important for a sustainable water supply, but raising awareness and good user ownership are also of great importance.”
