Chances are that the Netherlands will become warmer over the next decennia. It will be drier in summer and wetter in winter. We should be alert, however, because climate change also offers opportunities if we adapt to it. In a yearly round-table conference, organized by consultancy and engineering firm DHV, eight climate change experts from different organizations discussed the opportunities offered by climate change and how to make use of them.
Main conclusion is that a clear and solid framework for the next 30 years is required in which innovation and entrepreneurship are central elements. A sound government policy forms the basis to invest in creative solutions and opportunities offered by climate change.
The results of the round-table conference are presented in the booklet “Speaking of Climate”. The first copy was presented by Piet Besselink CEO of DHV BV to Mr Ahmed Aboutaleb, mayor of Rotterdam on the first day of the international delta conference Deltas in Times of Climate Change in Rotterdam.
