Water Footprint Assessment

Water is increasingly becoming a scarce resource. More and more companies are resolved to minimize their negative impact on water sources. But this is no easy task, since water is not only used in their own production processes but in other parts of the production chain as well. The water footprint is an indicator that reveals how many cubic meters of water is used during the entire life-cycle of a product.

This water footprint is not the only one of its kind. In fact, footprinting has become an key element in measuring sustainability performance - the most important other indicators, apart from the water footprint, are the carbon footprint, the social footprint, and the ecological footprint.

DHV has developed the Water Footprint Sustainability Assessment in order to effectively assist companies, governments, and project developers in their pursuit of socially responsible and sustainable production and development. Not only does this tool quickly present the water footprint and the impact of the water use on the environment, it also identifies the measures to be taken throughout the production chain to render the water use more effective, efficient, and sustainable.
