MBTF

Moving Bed Trickling Filter (MBTF) is a technique in which the processing of wastewater and of polluted air can be performed in a single reactor. Through the introduction of special packing (recycled synthetic material), in a recirculation technique, the biomass in the system is always regulated. This makes MBTF unique. Fouling that occurs in other biological filters is actually impossible in an MBTF. Practice shows that this processing of air, water, and air-water mixtures is particularly cost-effective.

The MBTF comprises a cylindrical tank, which is filled with special packing made of recycled synthetic material. This packing creates a very large surface area per tank cubic meter; an area upon which micro-organisms can attach themselves. The wastewater is introduced on top of the filter, while the air mixed in with the water also flows through the filter. An intensive mixing occurs within the filter and the pollution in the water and in the air is broken down by the micro-organisms.

The MBTF is a compact installation with a high treatment yield. Its low energy-use and its universal applicability for air and/or water pollution render this technology unique. The MBTF is fouling-free, easy-to-use, robust, and stable; furthermore its investment and operation costs are low.
