MBR

Industry demands reliable water treatment that produces pioneering water quality and can also, for example, make wastewater appropriate for reuse. The membrane bioreactor is such a technology. It is no surprise that it is the fastest growing wastewater technology in the world!

DHV is recognized internationally as one of the most competent experts in the MBR area. We earned this position thanks to over 10 years of constantly pushing the technology envelope. As early as 1998, for instance, we were responsible, through a turn-key delivery, for the conversion of a Carrousel® into what was at the time the largest industrial MBR in Europe, with a capacity of 135,000 ie. Subsequently, at another production location but for the same client, we were involved, as designers, in re-engineering and starting up another MBR, which was, with a capacity of 400,000 ie, also Europe’s largest at the time.

For many years at the wastewater treatment plant in Beverwijk, DHV has also conducted hands-on research – on industrial and pilot scales – into the performance of practically all leading membrane types. A number of further developments and MBR innovations were engendered in this way, and ultimately provided the basis for the development of design standards for large-scale applications.
