Risk management and planning management

Risk management and planning focus on taking inventory of, analyzing and managing activities under uncertainty. These activities can have both positive or negative effects on the objectives of the project.

Planning management

DHV utilizes conventional planning software and well-known planning techniques. Planning must meet certain project-specific quality requirements. Reserves and risks are apparent and it is clear who is responsible for managing which risks. Planning is characterized by openness and clarity and is a resource for clarifying tasks and commitments among the project members concerned.

Risk management

DHV supports and teaches project organization to deal with risks proactively by using risk management. One of the approaches we use is the RISMAN methodology, from the ISO standard for Risk Management (ISO 31000).

We use the interactive system “InterACT” for risk analyses. The risk file is composed of the analysis data from InterACT. The risk file is regularly updated using the risk analyses and the effects of possible control measures evaluated. Looking ahead becomes more important than justification; controlling risk is more important than avoiding risk.

Planning with a risk focus

Risk management provides insight into uncertainties that have consequences for: time, money, quality, image and frequently also safety. The methodology used by DHV is based on probabilistic planning, which is used to determine the feasibility of a milestone or delivery date.

DHV has utilized planning and/or risk management in the following projects and tenders:

  • Plan study Hoevelaken hub (Rijswaterstaat)
  • Plan study Utrecht Ring (Rijkswaterstaat)
  • IJsei (Amsterdam Central Station)
  • Plan study A27/A28 (Rijkswaterstaat)
  • Zuid-Willemsvaart diversion (tender, Ballast Nedam Strukton combination)
  • Rijssen underpasses Reggesingel (Reef-Colijn combination)
