The road traffic sign database forms part of the overall European project Rosatte. The aim of the project is the enhancement of road safety by encouraging the smooth flow of data on road traffic signs between governments and producers of maps, like Tele Atlas and Navteq. The Flemish Region, as the logistical heart of Europe, serves as a pioneer. Most countries take stock of merely part of the road traffic signs. Flanders is the only region where in one project all road traffic signs are recorded.
