Sustainability in our projects

DHV achieves its contribution to sustainable development primarily through its projects. We proactively devote ourselves to sustainable solutions. “Building with Nature” is just as important in that regard as closing the materials cycles, the integration of ecological and social aspects in decision-making, and anticipatory insight in technical possibilities.

For instance, we can offer the right solutions in all areas of expertise for issues in the fields of climate adaptation and mitigation. From the formation of vision to implementation, we can support you with our expertise in Cradle to Cradle, The Natural Step, and general knowledge of sustainability.

Presently, there is a climate of change. Changes that we can find back in weather patterns, availability of water, materials, and energy, globalization, financial instability, and social developments. Together, we must think and work innovatively to convert these changes into positive outcomes. DHV actively contributes to that process on the basis of its core values: integrity, respect, and freedom.

Investing in training and development of employees

The need to find the best solutions in increasingly complex situations imposes new requirements on our employees. Therefore, we consider sustainable innovation to be a prerequisite for our own success. We meet this prerequisite by continuously investing in the training and development of our employees.

This includes skills and knowledge of sustainability theories and methodologies. We are for instance authorized Cradle-to-Cradle consultants and we are one of the first consulting firms in the Netherlands to use the methods of “The Natural Step”. We combine this knowledge with our years of practical experience in order to achieve surprising and new working methods.

Diversity, creativity, and passion

Diversity, creativity, and passion are very important in our work. Just like in nature, diversity within DHV reinforces robustness and flexibility. By creating project teams with diverse backgrounds and expertise, we achieve creativity and ingenuity. In addition, we practice our profession with passion and will gladly go the extra mile.

Contributions to sustainable development

One of our biggest challenges at the moment is to demonstrate our contribution to sustainable development in projects. In many projects, we make a direct or indirect contribution to developmental objectives, such as the Millennium Development Goals.

We are increasingly frequently applying sustainability principles in the selection and evaluation of projects. For instance, we have incorporated the principles of the UN Global Compact in the selection procedures for large projects. However, one of our additional goals is the ability to make our actual contribution and impact more transparent in the short term.
