Making a social contribution with the combination of knowledge, time, and money is a good fit for DHV. Under the name of “Building Futures”, we support projects that contribute to education and sustainable development. In addition, our employees are very active in initiating various social projects. DHV encourages and supports these initiatives.
DHV supports this type of social initiative preferably with knowledge and commitment. Yet, we also finance a number of projects. In supporting projects, we focus on areas in which we possess the highest added value. Our guideline in this regard is called “Building Futures”.
Education
An aging population and declining numbers of technical graduates are a serious problem in the Netherlands. At the same time, not all children have the same opportunities for a proper education. This not only applies to developing countries but also to the Netherlands. Therefore, being a knowledge-intensive company, it is our duty to support the (technical) education of these children.
Some examples of our efforts are:
- The “Profielwerkstukken Water” program, (Water final subject cluster projects, VMBO, HAVO, and VWO) created by DHV. The program connects students, who do a final subject cluster project related to water, to experts from the industry.
- The Stichting Pet’je Af creates opportunities for transition class students to experience professional practice. DHV has supported this foundation since its inception in 2006 and is proud to report that the foundation has opened its third location.
- We frequently provide theme sessions or tours for schools in the vicinity of our projects. In addition, our employees teach at various universities and colleges.
- We are intensively involved outside schools and universities in putting young people on the right path, for instance by participation in the Go4it program.
Sustainable development
We support a number of external initiatives whose goal is sustainable development. Examples thereof are our collaboration with the World Wildlife Fund, Aqua for All, and the Business-in-Development network.
Own projects of DHV employees
Everyone has his own priorities as far as social issues and charity are concerned. Hence, many DHV employees are also active in own projects or foundations. Examples thereof are the House of Hope in Rotterdam or a biofuel race for Wonders of Waste.
DHV employees are frequently working on preserving our environment also for future generations. They contribute by rolling up their sleeves. It is for instance not unusual to see a department of DHV picking up garbage in the woods when they organize a company outing.
Joint actions of employees are often sports events. As such, DHV employees are participating for charitable reasons in the RopaRun from Paris to Rotterdam or bicycling through the Netherlands or South Africa.
